sounds like you need your very own BUD (big ugly dish).
then you don't need no steenking cable operator with their steenking PPVs and
shopping and steenking local ads shot with 5 year old consumer video equipment
that then is played back on equipment that misses the "sync" to the cable
channel it's supposed to play on so you miss a few seconds of the program..

The outgassing of from the PVC cabinet parts is potentially harmful, that
can be offset by decent air circulation. Amateur radio is a largely inactive
hobby with some stressful activities like 24 hour contesting and DX pileups
and exscessive coffee drinking, try to offset those with regular physical
activity and healthy sleeping and eating habits.
Don't work on your linear without disconnecting the power and discharging
the high voltage supply, never climb your tower without a safety belt, don't
string feedlines and antennas too close to power lines.
That should cover your station as you described it:)

Has anyone received a notice of upgrades on PKGOLD or KAGOLD.
It seems that there has been many since Version 9 date 3-15-94
and REGISTERED users are **NOT** notified like other commercial
software.
It seems that they now have more upgrades than AEA eproms. Its
seems We the users must keep updated ourself by AT&T. At nearly
$100.00 per-model version we could get notified. My mailbox is
always full of upgrade notices from other les costly software

Try anonymous FTP to "oak.oakland.edu". You will find several
morse programs in "pub/hamradio/mac/theory-and-morse". I have
used a program called "MorseTrainer 1.1.1". It is very good. I believe,
it is written by a Swedish guy.

IMPORTANT ISSUES DISCUSSED AT RAC CONVENTION IN CALGARY
The rapidly changing face of amateur radio was evident at the annual
Board of Directors of Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) meeting in Calgary on
July 27 and 28.
Here are a few highlights of the many important issues confronted by
RAC's Board:
RAC's Board elected a new streamlined executive with Farrell Hopwood,
VE7RD, as President; Tim Ellam, VE6SH, as First Vice-President; Jim Dean,
VE3IQ, as Vice-President Government Affairs and Ken Pulfer, VE3PU, as
Secretary-Treasurer. In addition, the Board appointed executive assistants
Debbie Norman as General Manager and Tim Ray, VE3XV, as Honourary Legal
Counsel.
In keeping with the federal government's desire to have amateurs control
their own destiny through the delegation of the administration of the Amateur
Radio Service to RAC, much attention was devoted to the progress of the joint
RAC/Industry Canada working group.
Jim Dean, VE3IQ, apprised the Board of the significant progress made in
only a few months toward amateurs taking responsibility for the process -
operator certification, call sign assignment and document distribution.
Issues of station licensing and spectrum surveillance and management remain at
the stage of very early discussion.
The Board was pleased with the results of discussions with Radio Amateur
du Quebec inc. (RAQI) to have that organization assist RAC in providing future
delegated service to almost one-third of Canadians who speak French.
The Board members were encouraged by the progress being made in the band
planning processes. Reports submitted by both the HF and VHF/UHF Band
Planning Committees indicated that the work to arrive at a national consensus
on these plans is progressing very satisfactorily. These volunteer band plans
are well on their way toward completion and publication.
George Spencer, VE3AGS, Chairman of the RAC/IARU Niagara 95 Conference
submitted a report on the arrangements and organization to host this important
international conference. This is the first time Canada has had this
privilege.

That may have sounded like a stupid question, but a visit to the local

plus some less than enthusiastic responses from some local hams.

: You aren't going to be able to get a GPS and cell phone for a couple
: hundred dollars. The cheapest GPS receivers are around $400, and so
: are cell phones unless you roll their cost into a long term service
: contract. And monthly and per minute cell phone charges will mount
: up fairly rapidly. By using packet radio, amateur or commercial,
: you can send position updates on a regular basis without incurring
: quite as much cost.
: DeLorme Mapping and City Streets are a couple of commercial map
: systems that work with GPS. However, APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting
: System) is in some ways better. While it lacks the friendly user
: interface of the commercial products, and it's pre-made map databases
: are skimpy, you can make your own maps, and it works with local and
: remote GPS receivers (using packet UI frames for the latter). It also
: supports other information about the remote sites such as range and
: bearing data from DF equipment, and arbitary text messages.
: However, what many of us want is *differential* GPS. The Coast Guard,
: FAA, and others send out position deltas from a fixed benchmark
: receiver that are received and used to correct the reading of the local
: GPS receiver. These transmissions are either at MF or VHF depending on
: the system. A special receiver is required, and either a GPS receiver
: designed to work with differential signals, or a PC that can take the
: timestamped position reports and reconcile them via software, is used
: to give a true position. This method removes the deliberate SA jitter,
: and other error sources such as varying atmospheric propagation factors,
: from the position data. This allows much greater precision in determining
: location than raw GPS alone.
: It would be nice if the APRS author would support this mode in his
: software. Some of us are willing to set up benchmark receivers on
: the amateur bands. That timestamped data could be used to correct
: the positions reported by the rover receivers over packet.

This has already been done on an experimental basis here in the Annaoplis
area: A cooperating ham otransmits a differential signal on the same
freq as the APRS net. Receive it thru your TNC and it goes into the
GPS receiver. Works fine.
